Eraserhead

Mrs. X : Its Henry isn't it? Mary tells me you're a very nice fellow. What do you do?

Henry Spencer : Oh, I'm on vacation.

Eraserhead (released in France as Labyrinth Man) is a 1977 film written and directed by David Lynch and staring Jack Nance as a man living in an industrial wasteland of the near future and dealing with an extremely disfigured - perhaps even mutant - baby. The film was become a cult classic due to its surreal imagery, strange soundtrack and its generally dreamlike aura. In 2004, the film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. The setting of Eraserhead seems to be one where industry is omnipresent but unreliable. Electric Lights continually flicker, sewer pipes constantly leak and a mechanical humming sound is ubiquitous.

I never do plot summaries just in case you have not seen the movie yet. But in the case of Eraserhead it would be pointless anyway. No plot summary I have ever read has even come close to describing this mutated film. Just go see it.
