Image theft

"All your content is belong to us"

Hot linking is using code on your page to make my server, serve an image or images to your page at my expense. I pay good money every month to keep this and other sites up. Hot linking image theft is the same as taking money out of my pocket, that I never get back. It also takes a lot of time to dig through my logs to find out who is stealing from me and change things on my site to take care of it. Since the MySpace and general blog explosion, things have gotten a lot worse. I have done different things in the past to address this situation, here is my current policy.

1) There is now no legal way to hotlink from any of my sites. I can't do anything about you copying images from my site and hosting them yourself. I don't even care if you do. There are plenty of free places to host images, find them and use them. If you are too lazy to even do that the gloves are off.

2) First I will change the images in question to another image with text on the image in the form of a link back to this page. This is the only notification of the contract you have made with this site you will ever receive. Sometimes the image will be large and obnoxious other times it will be NWS (not work safe = Porn or worse) and may get you or your friends fired from their jobs for just looking at your page. (trust me it happens) Generaly it will also include advertising for one or more of my sites.

3) The per the terms of the contract you have made with this site, I own all the content from your page, site, blog, etc. I don't hot link, I harvest. I now own all of your images, text, and code and will do with them what I want. Anything I want. If I don't think much of your content I will even dig around in your friends pages for content. (maybe they can get you to respond) Not reading your contract, and/or just taking down the hot linked image does not get you out of your contract, read below.

4) If you would like out of this contract you can contact me directly about the situation. This is no time to threaten me with any BS, if you apologize and ask nicely I'll likely let you out of the contract. If I have been struggling with you for a long time or I happen to like what I have done with my new content I may ask for a payment of some form to let you out of the contract. Either way the choice is mine. Got it? Good.

I almost have enought Owned content to create a new section for it, look for that soon. Right now most of it hangs out in the Beautiful Mutants section of the site. See if you can find someone you know, it might just be you.

This one translated to "I would like a photograph of island paradisaque (to dream a little in this period of re-entry...)" Well Cthulhu is the dreaming god! you got your wish!!!
